has announced that it has launched a new SplitSave feature on their mobile app which allows rail passengers to save money on long-distance journeys.

SplitSave is where you split ticket your journey, which can be cheaper than buying one ticket for the whole journey. For example, you could buy a London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly with one ticket, or you could split ticket your journey with a ticket from London Euston to Stockport, and from Stockport to Manchester Piccadilly – no change in your journey, just money-saving ideas.

To book tickets, you will need The Train Line's IOS or Android app – which you can download from the Google Play store and the Apple App Store.

To get this great feature, its as simple as 1, 2, 3!

  1. Search for your journey as normal
  2. Select your journey, look for the SplitSave icon – this will show you how much you will save
  3. Purchase your tickets through the app.

Split ticketing is a cheaper, and fully legal way of saving money, sometimes they require a change in trains if your original journey required a change, but if your journey doesn't need a change then you can stay seated!

Also! You can reserve seats for your split ticketed journey, meaning a guaranteed seat for those long journeys!

Have a railcard? SplitSave works in conjunction with a railcard too, so you can save money using a split ticket, and then save up to a 1/3 on the split ticket price – winner winner!

  • Using Trainline.com on my MacBook, Air, the Split Save box overlaps the journey planner, is impossible to get rid of and prevents returning to the booking.
It is annoying and makes the website redundant. Any suggestions anyone?

  • This morning I went on to the trainline.com to book a journey as I have done hundreds of times before. Immediately after I had plotted in my journey, the split save box popped up and was impossible to get rid of and to get back to my booking.
So annoying. I tried everything I could but to no avail. I was using a MacBook Air.
    Can anyone help?

    • Hi Annette,

You need to contact trainline.com directly and see what they say about the problems you have using their website

  • Is this just a PR release? What about a bit of impartiality about other solutions that have been on the market for quite a while?
