The lifts in use at Smethwick Galton bridge station are out of use from the 8th of January until July 2020, for improvements and maintenance.

will renew all the lifts at the station to improve reliability to passengers and will be completed in two phases. This means there will only be partial access to both platforms.

Phase one will begin in January 2020 and will focus on the lifts serving the low-level platforms. Only the stairs will be used to access the platforms, for trains to Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street. This will be completed in March 2020.

Phase two will begin in April 2020 and will focus on the remaining lifts at the station, from the ticket office to the high-level platforms serving the Snow Hill Lines. These lifts will be unserviceable, so passengers will have to use the stairs to access the platforms. The lifts that were out of use in phase one for access to the low level platforms will be in use.

Passengers who require the use of a lift to change trains at Galton Bridge should change at Birmingham New Street or Birmingham Moor Street instead, where lift access is available.
