MAJOR DISRUPTION: Person hit by a train at Penrith North Lakes

Trains on the West Coast Main Line are currently being delayed following a train hitting a person at Penrith.

Emergency services are dealing with the incident and all lines are blocked between Carlisle and Lancaster.

Train services running between these stations may be cancelled or delayed.

Disruption is expected until the end of service.

This is a developing story, we will update you as soon as more information is released. Here is what we know:

6th January 2020 at 23:00

Trains are now slowly getting back to where they should be, with passengers boarding buses to complete journeys.

We would just like to send our thoughts out to everyone involved in tonights fatality.

One last update for you before we sign off for the night

9S85 15:43 London Euston to Glasgow Central is still sat outside Penrith North Lakes, with no confirmation of when this will be moving.

1M19 18:40 Glasgow Central to London Euston, the train involved in this fatality, its still outside Penrith, and is undergoing an inspection ahead of removal.

Avanti Update:

  • 17:43 London Euston to Glasgow Central
    • This train was delayed at Wigan North Western and is now 110 minutes late – no confirmation of any cancellation however it looks likely to be Preston.
  • 18:30 London Euston to Glasgow Central
    • This train has been delayed at Wigan North Western and is now 90 minutes late.
  • 18:40 Glasgow Central to London Euston
    • This train is being delayed at Penrith North Lakes
  • 20:10 Glasgow Central to Crewe
    • This train is being delayed at Carlisle – with no confirmation yet as to where it will terminate.
  • Additional trains are as follows:
    • 20:59 Preston to London Euston
    • 21:17 Preston Birmingham New Street
    • 22:39 Preston to Crewe

TransPennine Express will be running an extra services for passengers.

This will form the 23:18 Carlisle to Glasgow Central service, calling at Lockerbie (23:37) and Glasgow Central (00:51) only.

    • It is now 45 minutes late

1S82 16:30 London Euston to Glasgow Central is now reversing back to Oxenholme Lake District, where it will most likely terminate.

1S87 16:57 London Euston to Glasgow Central has also done the same, but instead has reversed to Lancaster.

    • This train is currently 19 minutes late

    • Was 31 minutes late, but is now stabled at Preston awaiting further instructions
    • THIS TRAIN IS TERMINATING AT PRESTON
    • Will not call at Lancaster, Oxenholme Lake District, Carlisle, Motherwell or Glasgow Central

6th January 2020 at 22:00

1S83, the 18:07 Manchester Airport to Edinburgh Waverley TransPennine Express service, has now departed from Penrith North Lakes – 118 minutes late.

This service is due to call at Carlisle (22:14), Lockerbie (22:33), Haymarket (23:31), and Edinburgh Waverley at 23:37.

Above timings are correct at the time of writing

Avanti West Coast are now quoting that trains between Carlisle and Preston may be cancelled or delayed up to 180 minutes
