MAJOR DISRUPTION: Newcastle trains delayed as person is hit by train

Train operators are warning passengers of delays as emergency services are currently dealing with an incident between Newcastle and Morpeth.

As a result of this, all lines are blocked. Trains between Newcastle and Morpeth may be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes.

Disruption is currently expected to last until 18:00.

This is a developing story and we will update this article as more information comes in.

All lines have now reopened – residual delays may still occur but trains should now start heading back to normal

12:00 Kings Cross to Inverness is now being diverted via Carlisle

1230 London Kings Cross – Edinburgh is terminating at Newcastle and will form an additional 1559 Newcastle – London Kings Cross.

An additional train has been planned – the 15:32 Newcastle to London Kings Cross will now run.

LNER has announced that 11:30 London Kings Cross to Edinburgh has been terminated at Newcastle.

Additionally, the 15:30 Edinburgh to London Kings Cross has been cancelled throughout.

CrossCountry tickets are accepted on the following routes:

  • Avanti West Coast between Birmingham New Street and Glasgow Central
  • London North Eastern Railway between Doncaster and Edinburgh
  • Northern via any reasonable route
  • Transpennine Express between Leeds and Edinburgh
  • ScotRail between Edinburgh and Glasgow Queen Street

TransPennine Express Advice:

TransPennine Express tickets are accepted on the following routes:

  • Avanti West Coast between Manchester and Edinburgh via Preston
  • Northern between Newcastle and Carlisle
