CLEARED – Damaged overhead wires between Lancaster and Oxenholme Lake District

has announced that overhead electric wires have been damaged between and .

This has now caused all lines to be blocked on the West Coast Mainline.

Train services between these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes.

Disruption is expected to last until end of service

  • Northern between Manchester Airport/Manchester Piccadilly / Liverpool Lime Street / York and Preston and also between Carlisle and Newcastle
  • Avanti West Coast between Glasgow Central/Edinburgh and Carlisle. Once the line reopens you may use these services as far as Preston.
  • LNER between York and Newcastle / Edinburgh
  • CrossCountry between Leeds / York and Newcastle / Edinburgh / Glasgow Central

  • The chip shop in the picture of teh fallen wires is at Hest Bank, near where the Morecambe line leaves the WCML.
