A safety inspection of the track between Hassocks and Preston Park is causing disruption between Haywards Heath and Brighton.

As a result of this inspection, trains running through Hassocks may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

This is expected until 11:00.

If you are travelling on a train between Brighton or Littlehampton and Central London, your journey may take longer than usual this morning.

Trains may be delayed by up to 10-20 minutes, revised to call at different stations, or terminated before it reaches the affected area.

This incident is affecting Southern, Gatwick Express and Thameslink services.

The driver of the 09:18 Brighton to London Victoria service reported that their train had struck an object in Clayton Tunnel, just south of Hassocks Station.

Subsequent trains are running at much-reduced speeds until it is confirmed that the object is completely clear of the track.
