Avanti West Coast has confirmed that a person has been hit by a train near Stockport, and has resulted in lines being blocked.
Train services are currently being delayed by 20 minutes, or being diverted via Styal.
Stockport and Macclesfield will not be served.
Disruption is currently expected until 13:00.
CrossCountry are conveying passengers between Birmingham New Street and Manchester Piccadilly in both directions until further notice. Arrangements have been made for Avanti West Coast rail tickets to be accepted for these journeys.
Rail Replacement Buses are running between Stafford and Stoke-on-Trent until further notice.
Rail Replacement Buses are running between Wilmslow and Macclesfield until further notice.
Northern are conveying passengers between Stockport and Manchester Piccadilly in both directions until further notice.
