Network Rail has announced that its engineers will be working hard this Christmas to upgrade a junction near Edinburgh Haymarket.
From December 25th to December 29th, Haymarket East junction will undergo a significant junction upgrade to renew four points and will see 250m of track replaced.
Haymarket junction is found to the west of Haymarket station and is one of the busiest junctions on the Scottish network.
This upgrade will help improve the reliability of the railway.
Being completed during a time when no ScotRail trains run into Edinburgh, this project will take several days to complete.
Following on from the holiday, on Friday 27th December and Saturday 28th December, trains will be unable to pass through Haymarket, and a replacement bus service will operate into Edinburgh Waverley.
ScotRail is advising its passengers who are planning to travel to the Edinburgh area on these dates to consider making alternative travel arrangements.
Regular train service will resume on all routes from 10 am on Sunday 29th December 2019.

Liam Sumpter, Network Rail Scotland Route Director, said:
“Haymarket East junction is a key part of Scotland's Railway and is used by hundreds of trains a day travelling to destinations across Scotland and England.
“We understand the inconvenience this work will cause to some passengers, but renewing such a complex piece of our railway cannot be accomplished without a short-term closure of the line.
“Our engineers have carefully planned this project to be completed as quickly as possible and we are working hard alongside our train operators to keep passengers informed of the changes to services during this important investment in the railway.”
