The has announced that work has commenced on the overhaul of LNWR ‘Webb' Coal Tank .

Yesterday, 15th December 2019, saw the volunteers at the BLS use the steam crane to remove 1054's boiler from its frames.

This, therefore, allows the team at Ingrow West to start work on overhauling the boiler.

Additionally, with the biggest part of the locomotive removed, work can now also be carried out on the rest of the locomotive.

More information on the overhaul of 1054 will be provided in due course.

At the end of their 10 years in steam, locomotives need to be stripped down to the little individual pieces so that everything can be inspected, repaired and cleaned.

Once this is all done, and the necessary tests complete, 1054 will be able to return to passenger service.
