has invested £2.1 million to replace track south of Grantham over Christmas, using the Track Renewal System locomotive, as part of the upgrade scheme.

Over 2.4 miles was replaced from Christmas eve to the 27th of December.

This will provide a more reliable service for trains running over the relaid section of track.

The Track Renewal System locomotive was used, and can relay up to half a mile of track per night, and was used constantly over the Christmas and boxing day period, as no trains were running on the East Coast Main Line.

What did the officials say?

Ben Brooks, High Output alliance director for Network Rail said:

“Completing this work over the Christmas break and causing no impact to services means passengers benefit from a smoother and more reliable railway more quickly.”

“This has been a significant investment into the railway in Grantham which will help to improve services and keep trains running reliably for years to come.”

  • As Werrington Junction near Peterborough is having a massive upgrade with a new underpass. Perhaps Network Rail should upgrade Colton Junction near York with a new underpass or flyover. As they have completed the upgrade at Hitchin, Hertfordshire with a new flyover that was completed in 2013 to end the bottleneck. For Great Northern and Thameslink trains to pass over the ECML from London Kings Cross to Cambridge & Kings Lynn.
