The North Yorkshire Moors Railway has announced that work has begun on Bridge 27. The works are the first in a series of vital repairs for the heritage railway and forms part of its Yorkshire's Magnificient Journey.
The 20-metre bridge carries the 180-year-old railway over the Eller Beck at Goathland Station and is recognised as the track leading to Hogsmeade Station in the Harry Potter movie.
The single-span bridge is being built by Cleveland Bridge at its 27,000 sqm factory in Darlington.
NYMR's ambitious project has been made possible by grants from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Rural Payments Agency, the Local Enterprise Partnership and the generosity of supporters.
