(SLL) has announced that lifting Southern Railway steam locomotive West Country Class No.34028 “Eddystone”‘s boiler back into the rolling chassis has been successful.

Boiler Lift

Overhaul work on the boiler was completed a few months ago, with SLL choosing to store the boiler off-site near Herston Works.

While stored the boiler cladding was trial fitted while other members of the team worked on the rolling chassis so the boiler could be reattached.

For the lift, the rolling chassis was transported off-site to meet the boiler where the lifting took place. Eddystone is now back inside Herston Works to allow the overhaul to continue.

Recent Work

In the run-up to the boiler lift, the team have reassembled the brake and sanding components and drain cocks. Control rods for the injectors and brake pins have been made on-site. Black paint has been applied where needed and the nameplates have been rubbed down.
