It has been reported today that LNER ‘A4’ No. 60009 Union of South Africa has today broken down at Rugby.
This unfortunate incident has happened during the locomotives second water stop whilst at Rugby.
The locomotive was moving today from the East Lancashire Railway to Southall WCRC depot in preparation for an upcoming tour this weekend.
The Ex-LNER A4 Pacific looks to have suffered from a hot axle box on the tender. The cause of the problem and extent of the damage are as yet unknown.
Consequently, the locomotives run has been cancelled, and the engine is currently in the sidings at Rugby.
The 60009 Facebook Page have made the following statement:
As many of you may have seen Number 9 is currently stopped at Rugby with an overheating tender axlebox. Following an examination repairs will be carried out as soon as possible. We have nothing else to report at this time.

All we know is that it headed for Southall a week later, and failed again.
Subsequently, 60009, her tender and support coach are now all at Bury undergoing repairs
