Not one, but two Black 5 steam locomotives are heading for Chester this weekend

Ian Riley’s LMS Black 5s will be on the mainline this Saturday (16th November) as they haul The Christmas Cheshireman.

44871 and 45407 are replacing 60009 Union of South Africa, which hasn’t had repairs completed in time.

Departing Bristol Temple Meads at 07:04, the locomotives will pass through Filton Abbey Wood (07:15), Magor (07:49), Cwmbran (08:48), Abergavenny (09:12), Hereford (09:43), Leominster (10:50), Shrewsbury (11:40), Chirk (12:08), Wrexham General (12:43) and Chester at 13:05.

The return journey will see the 5s depart Chester at 16:13 and will pass through Crewe (16:41), Wrenbury (16:59), Shrewsbury (17:31), Church Stretton (17:48), Craven Arms (17:57), Leominster (18:53), Hereford (19:09), Abergavenny (19:40), Pontypool & New Inn (19:56), Cwmbran (20:19), Pilning (22:01), Filton Abbey Wood (22:19), Bristol Temple Meads (22:30).
