Recording more than two million customer journeys since the launch of the first train in July, 's new trains have reached another landmark.

More and more passengers are now travelling in more comfort than ever before due to now having 33 new trains now in service.

The trains are in service in Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside and South and West Yorkshire and, every day, call at 97 different stations.

In the next few months, more brand new trains are to be introduced and will serve locations such as Accrington, Barnsley, Blackburn, Bolton, Burnley, Chesterfield, Lincoln, Nottingham, Sheffield, Stockport, Wakefield and York.

By the end of the rollout programme, which is expected by May 2020, 101 brand new trains will be serving customers at 154 stations.

What did the officials have to say?

David Brown, Northern's Managing Director, said:

“Our network is busier than it has been for a generation, with more than 100 million journeys set to be made this year.

“To meet this demand we are delivering 101 brand new trains – a £500m investment – alongside an upgrade of our existing trains and improvements at stations.

“Our fantastic new trains are a true step-change in travelling experience and I'm delighted that more than two million journeys have already been made.”

David added:

“We now have 33 brand new trains serving customers, with more to come during the rest of 2019 and into 2020. That means even more customers will get the chance to experience all that the trains have to offer.”

  • When will Northern bring out the Class 769. That will be operated on services in the Northwest including the Windermere Line. Northern have promised to sort out their services but somehow they are still not listening to what passengers want. Absolute joke.
