Flooding at Kirk Sandall continues to cause delays and cancellations across parts of South Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, and Humberside.

Trains are likely to be affected for the rest of the day today as the tracks are still flooded and there is damage to lineside equipment below the water.

A separate closure of the line at Kiveton Bridge has now been lifted.

Heavy rain has fallen on already waterlogged ground and flood waters have risen rapidly in the area.

Northern has arranged rail replacement road transport for customers on those routes that have no services.

Affected routes – updated 11am Friday 15 November

  • Sheffield – Gainsborough/Lincoln,  services are now running, though at reduced speeds with delays and cancellations likely
  • Sheffield – Scarborough/Bridlington, there are no services between Hull and Sheffield – all services will terminate/start from Hull
  • Doncaster – Hull, services will terminate/start at Goole heading from/to Hull – road transport is in operation between Doncaster and Goole.
  • Sheffield – Hull/Beverley, there will be no services between Doncaster and Hull
  • Doncaster – Scunthorpe, services will run via Skellow and will not call at Kirk Sandall
  • Doncaster – Sheffield, services will run as normal
  • Rotherham Central has opened as planned with services resuming from first thing this morning (Friday)

What did the officials say?

A spokesman for Northern said:

Flood waters have risen quickly in the area and have, once again, made it difficult to to run services.

“We know this will be a further blow to customers who have endured so much in the past week, but we’d like to thank them for their continuing patience and understanding.”
