has announced that the first boiler has been lit in the firebox of Great Western Railway ‘Grange' Class No. 6880 ‘Betton Grange'.

The fire has been lit in the firebox at Tyseley Locomotive Works, in the midlands.

This is the first fire to be lit in Betton Grange's boiler since 1965!

This marks a major milestone in the construction of the locomotive, as this means the locomotive in one step closer to completing its Hydraulic Test.

Once this is done, the boiler can be lifted into the frames of the locomotive – meaning completion of the locomotive is nearly here.

This is excellent news to report on, and we look forward to seeing Betton Grange in action very soon!
