The Bahamas Locomotive Society has announced that the fire on 1054 has been dropped for the very last time.
The Coal Tank's current boiler ticket has now run out, with the locomotive now going into the workshop for overhaul.
The team at the BLS have emptied the water tanks and will be emptying the boiler once the locomotive has cooled down, which is likely to be this week.
Stripping down of the locomotive will be started by the end of the year, with the expected work to minimal, with just the boiler tubes that need replacing.
This, therefore, means that the work will be done in house at Ingrow West on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway.
During the overhaul, the BLS volunteers will clean up everything they take off the locomotive, repair and replace anything that is needed.
The Bahamas Locomotive Society estimates the overhaul will take about 2 years, but is conditional on what they find when they take all the bits off!
They also want the locomotive in running order again by 2022 so need to start work now in order to meet this deadline.
