The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway has released an update on the overhaul of Lancashire & Yorkshire Class 25 No. 957.

The update released by the KWVR is very positive and leans towards suggesting that it might not be very long before 957 is steaming back up the valley once more.

The railway is hoping that 957 may be ready for the 50th Anniversary celebrations of The Railway Children in 2020, in which, 957 starred as The Green Dragon.

The tender requires coupling to the frames, this will allow the pipework to be fitted including the new steam heat connection.

The leading sandboxes need lifting out of the tender’s coal space and inspecting, repairing and repainting.

The drain taps have been refurbished and are ready for fitting. The brake gear and motion are nearly complete, just a few final tasks now remain.

The ashpan is ready for fitting on the foundation ring as part of the boiler lift – this is where the boiler is lifted off the truck and onto the locomotives frames.

Once the boiler has been washed out, adding in all of the boiler tubes will be able to commence. Most of the fittings for the boiler have been refurbished. Most of the work from now on is re-assembly and preparing the paintwork.

This is excellent to report on, and we cant wait to see the locomotive in action once more!
