The boiler has been stripped several times, many small parts have been cleaned and exchanged and soot removed.

The boiler was fired up on the 17th and passed inspections, so 40106 is now operational for the 's Santa Specials!

  • Used to be a bugger keeping them boilers going as a secondman sometimes, but once they got going they were quite good , still got my manuals for them as well

  • Boilers were always the Achilles heal of the diesels, as a second man at Hornsey I must have spent ages in the engine room trying to get the things working…Stones, Clayton, Spanner…just when you thought you had succeeded the white failure light would pop up again on the cab panel…memories!
