Rail passengers across Wales and the Borders are being advised to check before they travel today and Saturday (25 & 26 October) after the Met Office issued a Yellow weather warning.
Due to the forecast of heavy rain and the threat of flooding, Transport for Wales and Network Rail will provide extra staff and standby buses at key locations across the network.
There will also be temporary speed restrictions introduced on some routes; these are:
- Dinas Rhondda (Treherbert Valley) 20mph – already in place
- Penybont tunnel (Heart of Wales) 20mph from 19:00 Friday 25th October
- Maes y Wern (Heart of Wales) 20mph from 19:00 Thursday 24th October
For Blackbridge in Machynlleth, where flooding has occurred already this month, the railway will be inspected at three-hour intervals once a flood warning is active.
Customers should also take extra care when travelling to and from stations and allow themselves extra time where possible.
What did the officials say?
A spokesperson for both Transport for Wales and Network Rail said:
“Safety is our top priority, and with severe weather expected tomorrow and into the weekend, it is really important that customers check before they travel.
“Heavy rain and flooding can cause disruption to our services and in order to keep our people and our customers safe, we may need to make last minute alterations to some services.
“We will be monitoring the weather closely and have additional teams on standby to minimise any disruption, including standby buses in key locations. We would like to thank customers in advance for their understanding.”
