has published their latest update in building replica London and North Eastern Railway Holden F5 No.789.

Wheels

Recently announced, the Trust has accepted a quote for casting all eight wheels (four coupled, two leading and two trailing) and the pattern for the coupled wheels.

This is very good news for Trust which just leaves the boiler as the last major component to be ordered.

Railway Wheelset And Brake have been asked to form a quote for forging all eight tyres and four axles (three plane and the crank axle). With the crank axle being complex, this might have to be forged by an alternative manufacturer. This will be confirmed once Railway Wheelset And Brake send in their quote.

Boiler

As mentioned above, the boiler is the last major item to be ordered for 789. The Trust has been in contact with a couple of potential boiler builders to work out rough costs and timescales and are currently not in a position to place the order yet.

The Severn Valley Railway quoted around £200,000 to build the boiler, which with the line currently building similar simple designed boiler, the figure is fairly accurate. The only downside is the SVR are booked up work wise for the next four years.

The Trust, therefore, approached Heritage Boiler Steam Service to see what they could offer. They said that in roughly a years time (from the time of writing) the firm would consider accepting more work. In the meantime, members of the Trust have begun producing CAD (Computer Aided Design) drawings for the boiler, ready for when the order is placed.
