has announced that the combined fundraising activities have resulted in £100,000 being raised for the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) charity.

The fundraising milestone has been achieved on the first anniversary of LNER's partnership with CALM.

A significant share of the funds were raised through LNER staff taking part in a range of activities from sporting events like the Edinburgh Marathon, York 10K and Great North Run, to organised bake sales and raffles.

The number of hours volunteered by LNER employees to reach the latest amount exceeds 600 hours.

LNER and CALM worked together on other activities throughout the year, including several Pride events at locations along the East Coast route, to raise awareness of the partnership and promote the support available from the charity which works to prevent male suicide.

More than 100 people from LNER have successfully completed training provided by CALM which covers topics around suicide prevention, myth busting and how best to support those in need.

What did the officials say?

David Horne, Managing Director of LNER, said:

“I'm proud to see our people, customers and the communities we serve help us reach this tremendous amount for such a worthwhile cause. This pioneering partnership continues to demonstrate our commitment to making a real difference and it's great to see such strong support from our customers continue.”

Simon Gunning, CEO of the Campaign Against Living Miserably, said:

“We're hugely grateful to have the continued support of LNER and their customers. As well as raising awareness of the issue of suicide across their workforce, the generosity of LNER's passengers has meant the partnership has raised £100,000 and counting. This will enable CALM to continue supporting anyone who is experiencing a difficult time in their life via our free and anonymous services.”
