has announced that all of its stations are undergoing a deep clean over the next 100 days.

All 90 stations will be completed by early November, with some of the mainline stations already complete.

Special cleaning teams will be at the stations across the East Midlands area and will be cleaning toilets, jetwashing platforms, cleaning and repainting walls, cleaning windows and removing chewing gum amongst other things.

The 100-day deep clean is the first part of an 8-year plan by East Midlands Railway to invest over £20m in stations across the East Midlands.

The plans include 1,000 extra cycle spaces, 900 car park spaces, electric vehicle charging points, Ticket machines and Digital information screens at all stations.

A recent National Rail Passenger Survey said that 84% of passengers were satisfied with the East Midlands Railway stations.

What did the officials say?

Neil Grabham, Customer Services Director, East Midlands Railway, said:

“We know how important the cleanliness of our stations are to our passengers and it is good news that this additional cleaning programme is underway.

“Teams will be out and about across our network in the coming weeks to deliver this additional cleaning to all 90 of our managed stations. However, this is just a small part of our £20 million investment plan to transform stations right across the network so they can become more integral parts of the communities they serve with better and modern facilities right across the network.”

  • Absolutely desperate for a lift at Alfreton Station. No access to the platforms for anyone in a wheelchair to get from one side to the other. This was promised years ago including widening of one of the platforms.Come on guys ,this is the 21st century ,not the 18hundreds,.

  • To much fanfare, the line and station at Market Harborough were improved during the summer. Unfortunately, almost 6 months later, the southbound platform is still only half open. Work is proceeding at a snails pace, and large areas that could have been made into more car spaces have been ignored.

  • The picture of the East Midlands Railway IET could be similar to the Class 800, Class 801 and Class 802. And could be classed as Class 803?!
