Northern launches £500,000 giveaway

Thousands of rail passengers are set to win back the cost of their Smart season ticket thanks to 's £500,000 giveaway.

The giveaway will be running until January 2020. Passengers renewing their Northern Smart season ticket or switching from paper season ticket for Smart, can enter monthly prize draws to win back its cash value (up to £200).

The draws are open to anyone with a Smart season ticket valid on Northern's services.

Additionally, customers with Merseyside Railpass; Greater Manchester Traincard; West Yorkshire MCard ‘Bus & Rail' and TravelMaster SYConnect+ tickets can also put their names in the draw.

Once you have bought a valid ticket, entry is easy; simply enter a few details at www.northernrailway.co.uk/winsmart

The giveaway coincides with launch of more new trains on to the Northern network, with 20 percent of the 101 new trains now in service.

What did the officials say?

David Brown, Northern's Managing Director, said:

“This giveaway comes quickly after the unprecedented success of our summer promotion in which we sold more than 80,000 10p tickets in fewer than five days.

“The customer adoption of Smart tickets has gone over and above our expectations. Now rolled out across our entire network, and with this giveaway, we will see many more people move from paper season tickets to the Smart version with the added incentive of possibly winning back the value of their ticket.”

  • Northern are becoming a joke. As they are ignoring the Northeast with not allowing them to have new trains and instead have to cope with ageing rolling stocks. Including Class 150, Class 153, Class 155, Class 156 and Class 158/159. Instead of Class 195. As the Class 142 & Class 144 are being replaced.
