A fire has been lit in the firebox of steam locomotive 92134 for the first time as its overhaul approaches completion.
The overhaul is taking place at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway at their Grosmont Motive Power Depot, having previously taken place at the East Lancashire Railway.
This is the first time in 53 years that 92134 has had a fire in its firebox, having last had one in 1966.
This milestone is a real credit to every single volunteer and member of staff that has been working tirelessly to bring 92134 back into service. We owe them a big thank you, as without them, this moment would never happen.
This is a major milestone in the overhaul, and means this big powerful locomotive is now one step closer to returning to passenger service.
We are really excited to see this locomotive back doing what it does best, hauling passengers up and down the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors.

In 1959 I was on a train from Derby to York. The (I presume, Millhouses Jubilee) failed and loco. No 92113 was rostered as a replacement. I timed it at 80 M.P.H. between Church Fenton and York. They were phenomenal engines.
Pallet wood is not good for locomotive fireboxes ,it is tested with fire retardant ,pine wood is the best. For fire lighting
