Network Rail has apologised to residents in Wellingborough as work to upgrade Higham Road bridge requires a longer road closure than planned.
The work is in the final phase and will be completed on schedule, however, the westbound carriageway will now reopen in early November instead of Wednesday, 16 October after poor weather conditions has stopped work on site.
As part of the Midland Main Line Upgrade, Network Rail engineers have been working to raise the height of the bridge since January. This is to allow overhead electric equipment
The westbound section of the A45 carriageway over the bridge closed in February to allow this part of the bridge to be demolished and reconstructed.
Network Rail is also working to upgrade Station Road Bridge, which links Burton Latimer and Isham, which will reopen on Monday, 25 November.
What did the officials say?
Gavin Crook, Principal Programme Sponsor for Network Rail, said:
I would like to take this opportunity to apologise that the road will not fully reopen on Wednesday, 16 October. Whilst we have been able to recover most of the time caused by the wet or windy conditions affecting key crane lifts, we have not been able to overcome the weather completely.
“I would like to reassure motorists, residents and businesses that we are working as hard as we can to fully reopen the road and we would like to thank them for their continued patience.”

More delays on A45 bridge being rebuilt for electrifying near Wellingborough. If only network rail worked 24/7 rather than office hours the work would have finished on time !!!.

As the electrification on the Midland Main Line is only to be extended as far as Kettering and Corby.
East Midlands Railway will inherit the Class 360s from Greater Anglia to operate on the new London-Corby electric service and a new platform 4 at Wellingborough as it’s still under construction will reduce congestion and improving services on the Midland Main Line.
