Dennis Barnes, the founder of Charity Railtours, has announced that he has been told by West Coast Railways that they “no longer feel” they can operate their The Magnificient Severn railtour.

Mr Barnes has revealed that the following email has been received by himself:

“We have reviewed this and, unfortunately, it is an operation that we no longer feel we can undertake.

Best”
(Signatory redacted)

Since the discovery of the bearing fault with D1015, Dennis has been in contact with WCR asking for their availability to operate the train this summer and in September, October and November. The replies received all stated that WCR was too busy to commit.

But WCR has decided that The Magnificent Severn is cancelled, and not postponed.

Charity Railtours have had a great deal of help from Freight Operating Companies, Train Operating Companies, locomotive owners, Network Rail, railway staff, Charity Railtours volunteers and third party infrastructure owners. With support from them, Charity Railtours have raised just over £23,200 for Alzheimer’s Society, Adra and Macmillan Cancer Support.

If you have booked on this tour, then Charity Railtours are working to give you a full refund.
