The British Transport Police has released an appeal after railway staff were attacked in London this week.

Officers would like to identify these people below after Transport for London staff were attacked at West Ham Underground station in London on Wednesday.

At around 7.40 pm on Wednesday night, two young men and a woman barged through the ticket gates and into the station.

The woman was smoking and was asked to leave by TfL staff. However, the two men she was with threatened and lunged towards staff to try and attack them.

The victim along with another member of TfL staff quickly retreated to the staff office for their own safety.

The group managed to open the door and the two men punched staff multiple times.

Other TfL staff received scratches and punches whilst trying to separate the men from his colleagues before all parties then left the station.

What did the officials say?

PC Luke Dear from British Transport Police, said:

“This was a shockingly violent and determined attack on staff who were simply trying to do their job, they should be able to do their job without the fear of an assault.

“Thankfully they weren’t seriously injured but of course were left incredibly shaken by this terrifying ordeal.

“We believe the men and the woman in the CCTV images may have information which could help our investigation, and we’d like to speak with them as soon as possible.

“If you recognise them, or have any information, please contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 561 of 18/09/19.”

Vernon Everitt, Managing Director of London Underground, said:

“This sickening attack on our colleagues at West Ham station will not be tolerated. We want the perpetrators brought to justice and will work with the police to do everything we can to apprehend them and then prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. We call on anyone who has information on this horrific attack to get in touch with the British Transport Police.”

  • This is yet another sad example of a section of what we fondly call “community” out of control; these thugs have no respect for anyone or anything, and seemingly no fear of punishment. It is not unrealistic to assume their actions may be drug related. My thoughts are with the staff affected.

  • London is really suffering with gang violence, stabbings, thefts and using public transport in and around London is becoming more and more riskier and dangerous. I know that London has seen it all but its becoming too much. I actually think that people may not want to travel into London as the violence in the capital is on the increase. I do like travelling on trains and I do like London’s transport. But there are so many bad people around who just seem to ruin people’s lives.
