The Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway has announced that Chaloner will be visiting the Shrewsbury Flower Show.

The Shrewsbury Flower Show is claimed to be the world’s longest-running flower show. It takes place on the 9th & 10th August.

Chaloner was built in Caernarfon in 1877 and will form the centrepiece of the railway’s exhibit at Shrewsbury.
The Shrewsbury Flower Show is held in The Quarry Park, the main recreational park for the town’s residents. The show has been held in this location for over 129 years placing the event into The Guinness Book of World Records for the longest-running horticultural event held in the same location.
Why not come and see ‘Chaloner’, take photos, enjoy a ride and find out more about beautiful North Wales.
Back at home, the railway isn’t just about steam and scenery, there’s the active parks and gardens department whose volunteers look after gardens, tubs and window boxes at several stations on the 40 mile line.
There’s a range of gardens, with trees, shrubs and perennials and others with display bedding. Each year, volunteers plant around 2,000 annuals and 3,000 bulbs.

  • Hi, I hope Chaloner loco gets there in one piece, a bit of an unusual place to be in a flower show, but people like to take a photo of the loco. Ian Thompson.
