Steam locomotive heading to Carlisle this Tuesday

Steam locomotive 48151 will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in and around Carlisle on Tuesday 16th July 2019.

The locomotive is on a railtour on Tuesday, 16th July 2019. 48151 is hauling The Dalesman. The tour sees the steam locomotive steam through Penrith on its way to Carlisle.

We believe this tour to be part hauled by 48151 this Tuesday, however, has not been confirmed.

The train, hauled by a diesel locomotive, will depart Chester at approximately 07:48 am.

The tour will stop at Frodsham around 08:05 for a 5-minute break, departing at 08:10. The diesel locomotive will then make stops at Warrington Bank Quay (08:30), Wigan North Western (09:11) and Leyland (09:27) and Preston (09:35) to pick up passengers.

Upon arrival at Carnforth D&UGL, at 10:36, the train will see 48151 coupled up. Departing here at 11:23, the train will then depart and pass through Oxenholme (11:38), Tebay (11:54), Penrith (12:16) and Carlisle at 12:36.

On the return trip, the steam locomotive will depart Carlisle at 15:15 before heading via Ribblehead (16:32) and Hellifield, where the train will arrive at 16:52. The next stops are Blackburn (18:05), and Preston (18:33). Here 48151 is taken off the train and is replaced by a diesel locomotive.

Departing at 18:59, the diesel locomotive will make similar stops as the outbound train, these being Leyland (19:07), Wigan North Western (19:37), Warrington Bank Quay (20:03) and Frodsham (20:19).

The train will arrive back into Chester (20:42).
