has announced it is to run a special steam train this August to Blaenau Ffestiniog.

Network Rail has teamed up with Transport for Wales to run the special steam train on Saturday 3rd August 2019.

The train is to celebrate the re-opening of the Conwy Valley line, which runs from Llandudno Junction to Blaenau Ffestiniog. The line has been shut recently due to flood damage caused by Storm Gareth.

The train will run from Chester to Blaenau Ffestiniog and return, with tickets available from Monday 22nd July 2019.

Motive power for this tour is not yet confirmed, but due to weight restrictions, it would most likely be 8F 48151 or a Scot/Black 5.

  • I’ve booked my ticket today to bring back memories of these locos in particular 46115 working the North Wales Coast when I was a youngster. A wonderful trip through Wales travelling along a fabulous coastal mainline and a lovely rural branch. It’s even double headed by two mainline steam locos too!!! It’s great value for money and nice to support these steam trips in Wales.

  • Id said to myself that I was gonna stop booking on tours for 2019 as iv got 12 booked for this year but if it’s cheap enough aswell as have a decent set of boarding points combined with a suitable enough departure time I may make an acception. If it’s over £100 then it wont be happening, around £50 I may consider.
