STEAM, in Swindon, has announced a Class 43 will be visiting them this July from Great Western Railway.
On the 17th and 18th July, HST power car no.43002 Sir Kenneth Grange will be visiting STEAM.
Following on from withdrawal from service, 43002 is to be preserved as part of the national collection. It is stopping off at Swindon before heading for the National Railway Museum in York.
The power car is named after Sir Kenneth Grange, who was important in designing the look of the Intercity 125 HSTS. He was responsible for the streamlined shape of the nosecone, as well as the famous yellow and blue livery.
In late 1975 no.43002 was the first Class 43 power car to roll off the production line and entered into service hauling high-speed trains the following year.
Visitors to STEAM can view No.43002 outside STEAM on 17th and 18th July, 10 am – 5 pm.
