Class 33 locomotive to visit the Dean Forest Railway

The has announced that Class 33 locomotive No.33063 ‘R.J. Mitchell' will be visiting them in 2019.

This class 33 will be visiting the DFR for their annual diesel gala, which is to be held from Friday 13th September – Sunday 15th September 2019.

33063's visit to the Dean Forest Railway is thanks to the South East Locomotive Group and the Spa Valley Railway.

This ‘Crompton' will be joined by DFR residents Class 14 No.D9521 and Class 08 No.D3937 ‘Gladys' Plus there is a possibility of more being announced in the coming months.

If you didnt know, this Class 33 is named after the designer of the Spitfire aircraft.

An intensive timetable will be in operation at the gala, with passenger and freight workings both featuring. The rake of Dogfish ballast hoppers will be in operation also.

For a small fee, it will be possible to ride in the brake van of the freight trains, allowing visitors to experience life as a freight guard.

An evening dining train will also operate alongside a Beer-Ex train on Saturday evening. The evening dining train will have separate tickets, however, your day time ticket will cover you for the Beer Ex.
