The has announced that phase one of Bridge 11 and its work is completed.

Over the last 5 weeks, volunteers have installed a new waterproof concrete deck to the 7 arch under bridge.

Major works started on the 3rd of June 2019 and involved removing the existing railway track and fencing, digging down to the tops of the brick arches, pouring a new concrete deck over the complex and challenging contours of the bridge's interior, painting the new slab with bitumen sealant, and finally reinstating the ballast and footpath.

Volunteers have given up over 700 hours of their free time to come and help complete the project.

All the material excavated from the bridge was re-used elsewhere on the southern extension, meaning no material will be taken off site (helping to reduce our carbon footprint).
