The Groudle Glen Railway has released an update on Brown Bear, which is nearing completion.

After six years of fundraising with the Brown Bear Appeal and construction… the locomotive is nearing the final stages of construction.

Brown Bear is a replica of 's second original locomotive Polar Bear of 1905.

When complete, Brown Bear will help to recreate the 1905 view of two Bagnalls on the line side by side and is one of the final pieces of the puzzle to restore the line to its original identity.

The locomotive will be arriving on island early July courtesy of the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company. Testing will take place before the official launch alongside Otter on Sunday 28th July at 2pm as part of the Isle of Man Heritage Transport Festival.

What did they say?

The Groudle Glen Railway said:

The volunteers at the railway want to offer their sincere thanks to the supporters of the Brown Bear Appeal, to John Boyes and Trackshack Ltd., The Gough Ritchie Charitable Trust, the Alan Chinery Trust, The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company and John Fowler & Sons of Old Hall Farm for their support in the project.
