Steam locomotive 60009 Union of South Africa heading for Bristol this Friday

Steam locomotive 60009 Union of South Africa will be back in steam on the mainline and will be passing through Manchester and Chirk on Friday 7th June 2019.

The A4 locomotive is on a light engine movement. 60009 is moving from the East Lancashire Railway, in Bury, to the St Philips Marsh Depot, in Bristol.

The movement on the national network is to allow the steam locomotive to be in Bristol ready for its role as the locomotive for an upcoming railtour from Bristol to Kingswear.

The steam locomotive will depart the ELR at 11:00, before passing through Manchester Victoria (12:18), Eccles (12:38), Warrington Bank Quay (13:10), Helsby (13:33), Chester (13:50), Wrexham General (14:20), Chirk (15:07), Shrewsbury (15:59), Craven Arms (16:28), Leominster (16:47), Hereford (17:04), Abergavenny (18:01), Severn Tunnel Junction (19:10), Patchway (19:23) and St Philips Marsh HSTD at 19:54
