Good progress is being made at the Strathspey Steam Railway’s Aviemore Works and Riley & Son E Ltd on overhauling the oldest preserved London, Midland and Scottish Railway “Black 5” No.5025.

Boiler

Final repair work is being done on the boiler in preparation for it’s Hydraulic Test booked in next week at Riley & Son E Ltd.

All going well, this test is passed and the boiler filled with water to check for an leaks. At Aviemore Works, the team have been busy fitting the smokebox.

Alignment has been checked along with riveting and drilling holes. The door ring, smokebox door and space ring have now been fitted in place.

Tender

Cleaned and welded in place, the tender tank support brackets await painting in primer paint.

The water pipes on the underside of the tender have had their positions corrected. The water valves and their operating gear have been reassembled.

The hand brake mechanism, it’s cover and floor plate are now reattached to the tender.
