The Office of Rail and Road has announced that they have authorised to bring 24 of their Class 755s into service.

The ORR has contacted Stadler to approve their application to bring Class 755/4s into service.

This will see 755401 – 755424 into passenger service on the East Anglian route.

The conditions of the authorisation are that the trains are not to be operated until Greater Anglia has an S-stage Summary of Compatability in place.

GA 755/4s have been authorised to operate at 100 mph on GA routes.

Greater Anglia is the first train operating company to introduce the Class 755s in service.

The 755s are going to replace Class 153, 156 and 170s used by GA, as well as a Class 37-hauled trains.

The 755s will be maintained by Greater Anglia at their Norwich Crown Point depot.

  • I think Greater Anglia should start using the Class 755 Bi-Mode trains and to start replacing the Class 153, Class 156 and Class 170 to other train operators where those trains will be heading to. Hopefully the Class 745 will also be introduced in service later this year if that is the plan. Looking forward to seeing these brand new trains entering service that the East of England really wants.

  • Will Class 755/3 &/or Class 755/4 Bi-Mode Flirt also to operate on the Marks Tey-Sudbury “Gainsborough” line despite there might be no clearance because of the bridge on the branch line or will it be ok for the Class 755s to pass underneath the bridge as these new trains are replacing the Class 153, Class 156 and Class 170. As Class 153 and Class 156 to be cascaded to either Northern or TfW Rail and Class 170 cascaded to TfW Rail.

Plus with the Class 745/0 12-Car Flirt to replace the Class 90 Mk3 on the London-Norwich main line and Class 745/1 12-Car to replace the Class 379 Electrostar on the London Liverpool St-Stansted Airport “Stansted Express” services. As well with the Class 720 Aventra to replace the Class 317, Class 321 and Class 360 Desiro. Once the Class 720/0 5-Car and Class 720/5 10-Car units enters service from next year. Despite the 5-Car Class 720 might not be ideal to fit on platform 1 & platform 4 at Wickford and on platform 1a at Manningtree.
