The Tyne and Wear Metro will now be running extra and late evening services for the fans of the Spice Girls that are travelling to Sunderland for the concert that is taking place during the next week.

, who is the public body that actually owns and manages the Metro, has now scheduled some additional Metro trains to help spice girl fans and concert goers as they make their way to the stadium and from the Stadium of Light in order to see the multi-platinum girl band when they perform on Thursday the 6th of June this year.

There is going to be extended Metro services system-wide for a time period of an hour following the concert.

Some additional services are going to be also running prior to the concert, this means they will be providing a higher frequency of services during what will be a very busy evening for Metro themselves.

Customers who are attending should use either the Stadium of Light station or the St Peter's Metro station prior to and following the concert because both of these stations are within a ten-minute walk of the concert that is taking place at the Stadium of Light.

Concert attendees who have purple, red or yellow coded tickets should use Stadium of Light Metro station, however, people who have platinum, blue or green coded tickets should use the St Peter's Metro station.

After the concert itself finishes the Metro stations will become very busy. Queuing systems will be put into place for safety reasons at the Stadium of Light and at the St Peter's Metro. Customers attending should listen out for announcements at the stations and for any given guidance as staff get customers who are attending the concert onto the running trains as safely and as quickly as is possible.

What did the officials say?

Metro Services Director, Chris Carson, said:

“Extra Metro trains will be in operation to ensure that everyone gets to and from the concert.

“It is fantastic that Sunderland is welcoming the Spice Girls to perform at Stadium of Light and we are proud that Metro is to play a part in such a big event for our region.

“I would advise concert goers to leave plenty of time for their journey as Metro trains will be busy and to purchase a Day Ticket, which is valid for the whole day, to avoid queuing at ticket machines after the concert.

“We will have lots of staff on hand at stations in Newcastle city centre and at stations heading towards Sunderland before the concert, and staff at stations in Sunderland after the concert who will be able to provide advice and assistance to ensure that fans get to the concert and home quickly and safely.

“The Stadium of Light is only a short walk or Metro ride from Sunderland city centre with many exciting bars and restaurants, and with Jess Glynne as the support act there's every reason to travel early and make it a big day out in Sunderland.

“The extra and extended Metro services will help make life easier for our passengers and allow them to make the most of their experience seeing the Spice Girls.”

  • I’m surprised that Posh Spice Becks isn’t traveling with her band mates. As they were a 5 piece pop girl group from the mid/late 1990s and 2000s.
