The Northampton and Lamport Railway has released an update on their project to extend the railway to the south.
The 140-year-old 7 arch low viaduct, known at the railway as Bridge 11, has seen refurbishment work begin, this started on Monday 3rd June 2019. By Friday 7th June, all of the fill material was removed, and the main structure was cleaned and prepared for the new concrete slab to be poured in over the next two weeks.
If everything goes to plan, new ballast should be installed during the first week of July, with track ready to be relaid soon after.
At Boughton, work has progressed on constructing a new platform wall. About 75m of double skinned blockwork has been built, with the blue brick face following behind.
This represents about 1/3 of what will be the total final length.
Material from Bridge 11 has been recycled to start raising the level behind the platform wall, this is starting to create the appearance of a platform for the first time.
In order to complete the project, the Northampton and Lamport Railway needs to contribute £18,000 in match-funding.

The ”Eagerly-Must-Visit” Northampton & Lamport Railway have well cleverly done a jolly good job on their work/Boughton Extension….
I can’t wait until the day I finally come on down to this Intriguing part of Northamptonshire ‘in-person’ not only for a ride up and down this well-restored railway line … but to also check out their extension, as well as the rolling stock in-between.
I do believe as soon as they’ve officially completed and eventually extended their running line into Boughton (whom I do also believe – is adjacent to a local retirement/care home nearby (I checked out the N&LR route on Google Maps), They’ll next be aiming Northwards towards Lamport.
And what a clever idea of the N&LR and it’s volunteering lot on reusing material from one of it’s viaduct-like-bridges to continuously finish of their Boughton Station platform in-between.
I do hope they eventually head the other direction northwards some-day, as soon as they resolve and sort out various issues in-between.
I’ll definitely visit this well-restored ex-BR railway route ‘in-person’ one day, it’s yet another ‘Eagerly-Must-Visit’ Destination upon my Heritage Railways/Tourist Attractiosn UK list.
