The Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust has released an update on 6233 Duchess of Sutherland.
6233 was on a light engine movement from Carnforth Steamtown to Southall WCRC depot, ahead of a number of tours.
However, during a water stop at Rugby, the motion and axleboxes were felt by the crew, and the right trailing bogie axle box was found to be very warm.
After the engine was made safe, a member of the support crew went under the locomotive and removed the under keep to check the pad and thrust face.
Upon inspection, it was found that they had slightly pulled the white metal from the thrust face, which had put a small layer over the thrust face felts.
Unfortunately, the decision was then made to cancel the light engine movement to Southall. 6233 was then moved to a carriage siding at Rugby so that more inspection work could take place.
Last night, the support crew assisted the engineer in carrying out repairs. This will enable the engine to return home to the West Shed, where the axle box can be repaired.
