The Didcot Railway Centre has announced that visiting engine, 1450, will be in action with their Auto-trailers.
The Steam Rail Motor was built in 1908 and was one of the first generations of ‘drive at both ends' trains.
You can see the descendants of the Steam Rail Motor at Didcot, with the brand new GWR Class 800 Intercity Express Trains passing on the mainline,
Shortly after the Steam Rail Motors were introduced, the Great Western Railway developed small locomotives and Auto-trailer coaches which had a driving compartment.
These were more flexible than the Steam Rail Motors with a small steam engine permanently built into them. GWR No 1450 is one of a class introduced in the early 1930s to run with Auto-trailers.
Visitors to the Didcot Railway Centre this weekend can ride in their GWR Auto-trailers 190 and 231.
Whilst there, you can also view the rest of the collection of locomotives, coaches, wagons and buildings that can be found at the DRC.
Last admission is at 3.30 pm.
Please note there is an unavoidable flight of 18 steps to the museum's entrance.
