The Didcot Railway Centre has announced that they are to have a special fundraising day this May.

The aim of the day is to kick off fundraising efforts to complete the restoration of 4079 Pendennis Castle.

This day also coincides with the first day of their Push and Pull Weekend.

The heritage railway centre is also gathering together people who have direct or family connections to the locomotive.

Among others we have confirmed the attendance of her last fireman in BR service and veteran of the famous 9 May 1964 run, Doug Godden, Lady Judy McAlpine, and members of Mike Higson's family.

Mike Higson, publisher and bookshop owner, was the original owner of ‘Pendennis Castle' after she was withdrawn from BR service in 1964. He sold the locomotive to Hon John Gretton and Sir William McAlpine in 1966.

Are you planning to go down to help get this locomotive back in steam? Let us know in the comments below.
