London Northwestern Railway has announced that rail passengers at stations along the West Coast Mainline will be able to find out more about upcoming timetable improvements over the next two weeks.

The train operator will be hosting a number of ‘Whistle Stop Tour' events at stations to remind passengers of changes to the timetable this Spring.

The events will be an opportunity for passengers to meet with railway managers and ask any questions they might have.

From 19 May, there will be a range of major changes to train services across the network.

The train operator is introducing new direct services to more destinations, additional services throughout the week.

‘Whistle Stop Tour' events will be calling at:

  • Wednesday 8 May – Milton Keynes – 1630 – 1830
  • Thursday 9 May – Northampton – 1630 – 1830
  • Monday 13 May – Birmingham New Street – 0800 – 1815
  • Tuesday 14 May – London Euston – 0800 – 1815
  • Wednesday 16 May – Watford Junction – 1630 – 1830
What did the officials say?

Jonny Wiseman, customer experience director for London Northwestern Railway, said:

“While the timetable improvements being introduced in May will be great news for many passengers, there will be changes to many train times, the platforms being used at some stations and carriage formations to accommodate the changes. This will be the biggest timetable change for over 10 years, so we expect people to have some questions. Our ‘Whistle Stop Tour' events will give our passengers a chance to find out more about what is coming with the new timetable and to feed back any concerns.”

  • West Midlands Railway are also introducing the former London Overground 2-Car Class 172/0 units in service as the May timetable will come into effect. With some of them to operate on the Leamington Spa-Nuneaton service which will replace the Class 153. And some to work on the Snow Hill Lines and Birmingham New Street-Shrewsbury, Hereford and to work alongside the Class 172/2/3 and Class 170/5/6 on those services. As part of the re-modernisation.

And with 2 more Class 230 units to be used on the Marston Vale Line as the May timetable is also introduced. Which London Northwestern Railway should be proud of receiving the former London Underground D78 Stocks as Vivarail have converted these into DEMU Class 230 D-Train units formed as 2-Car.

  • The changes have been advertised as “more seats on commuter routes” but my commute (Berkhamsted to Euston) has no extra seats at all, just an extra stop.
The last “improvements” were sold as upgraded rolling stock. Turned out to be former Thameslink trains which were even older, with fewer seats.
