Where and when to see steam locomotive 60009 Union of South Africa in Edinburgh this Saturday

Steam locomotive 60009 Union of South Africa will be back in steam on the mainline and will be passing through Durham and Newcastle on Saturday 20th April 2019.

The A4 locomotive is hauling a railtour operated by Railway Touring Company. 60009 is running from York to Edinburgh and return.

The steam locomotive will depart York at 06:30 and head up the ECML to Edinburgh, arriving at 12:37. It will head via Thirsk (07:00), Darlington (07:24), Durham (07:51), Newcastle (08:16), Berwick-upon-Tweed (10:07) and Drem (12:14)

After a break in Edinburgh, the locomotive will then make its way back south down the ECML, departing Edinburgh at 17:34 and arriving back into York at 23:03. It will head via Dunbar (18:06), Newcastle (20:54), Durham (21:25), Darlington (22:11) and Thirsk (22:36).
