The Welsh Highland Heritage Railway has announced that Russell has been in the sheds recently for an upcoming special event.

At Gelert's Farm, the volunteers have been fitting a spark arrestor to the 2-6-2T Hunslet locomotive.

This is in preparation for the special event with the Ffestiniog Railway on 21st, 22nd and 23rd June.

The in Porthmadog will be running ‘Russell'-hauled trains to Beddgelert on the Friday and Saturday evening.

For readers who are wondering, the locomotive didn't need a spark arrestor when it did its test run as back in November, the weather was damp.

  • Nothing like those Steam Locomotive hauled Passenger/Mail/Express Trains that we used to enjoy listening to their puffing & whistling. The only flaw was that the passengers used to complain about tiny pieces of coal getting into their eyes as well as in their hair especially those sitting by the open windows. Another flaw was about slower speed & limited load haulage! But nevertheless, that sound of puffing & whistling used to be great. WilfredCoelho
