The Battlefield Line has announced that Great Western Railway 6959 ‘Modified Hall' Class No.6989 “Wightwick Hall” will be running at the line in October 2019.

About the Visit

6989 is the first guest engine confirmed to attend 's 50th Anniversary Gala taking place between Friday 18th to Sunday 20th of October.

More visiting locomotives are due to be announced closer to event.

About 6989 “Wightwick Hall”

Restored to running order in Late 2018, 6898 is one of six ‘Modified Halls' to survive into preservation. Built in March 1948, three months after British Railways' formation, “Wightwick Hall” only worked under BR ownership.

Withdrawn after just over 16 years in service, the engine was purchased for scrap by the Woodham Brothers and left exposed to the harsh Barry Island conditions for 23 years.

The Mid 1970s saw a fundraising appeal launched and The 6989 “Wightwick Hall” Restoration Group purchase the locomotive and a tender for restoration. Just over 40 years of hard work and the Group have completed the difficult task of restoring 6898.
