The Locomotive 6201 Princess Elizabeth Society has announced that their locomotive, London, Midland and Scottish Railway ‘Princess Royal' Class No.6201 “Princess Elizabeth”, has successfully passed both mainline tests and now is ready to haul mainline tours once again.
Unloaded and Load Test Runs
The Unloaded Test Run, carried out on the 14th of March 2019, saw ‘Lizzie' run from Carnforth to Hellifield and return.
This trip was the first one 6201 had made on the mainline since withdrawal for boiler repairs in 2016. The run went well, with the engine not suffering any major issues.
Two weeks later on the 28th of March, after some minor issues were resolved, “Princess Elizabeth” was back out on the mainline for Loaded Test Runs.
As the name suggests, the locomotive hauls a train formed of several coaches opposed to the Unloaded Test Runs were the engine usually only pulls its support coach.
Running back up to Hellifield and return, no issues were noted on the test, with 6201 arriving back at Carnforth three hours ahead of schedule.
With ‘Lizzie' passing both tests, we can now expect to see the engine back hauling tours on the mainline once again.
