It’s been announced that the West Coast Railway Company (WCRC) will operate services on the Lakes Line over the Easter weekend.

Local MP Tim Farron has been working alongside Network Rail and WCRC to set up a free to use shuttle service over the Lakes Line between Oxenholme and Windermere over the 2019 Easter weekend.

The announcement comes after concerns were risen over the decision to close the line, on both Saturday and Sunday, to allow for major engineering works to take place on the West Coast Mainline.

The train services are scheduled to depart from origin stations shortly after rail replacement services.

What did the officials say?

Liberal Democrat MP for the South Lakes, Tim Farron said:

“I’m absolutely over the moon that we’ve been able to secure this service. Easter is crucial to the Lake District’s economy, so it is brilliant news that there’ll be a train running on the Lakes Line this weekend”

Martin Frobisher, Network Rail’s LNWR Managing Director said:

“we are pleased to provide this additional travel option for customers travelling to and from Britain’s leading holiday resort, especially over the Easter weekend, which markets the start of the summer tourist season. Our Lakes charter service is a result of some great, customer focused teamwork.”

  • Well done to Tim Farron for doing the right thing to start a new West Coast Railway shuttle service during the Easter break as Northern should be ashamed for cancelling many services across the North of England.
